Ted’s Bulletin Eyes Bethesda

A while ago, I heard that the owners of Ted’s Bulletin were scouting for locations in Virginia — Tysons Corner to be exact. WRONG…unless you count that they recently signed a lease for a fourth DC-area Matchbox at Lee Highway and Gallows Road in Virginia.

But I’ve come to realize that there’s always a bit of truth to everything you hear. Curious, I called Ty Neal, one of the four friends behind the whole Matchbox, Ted’s Bulletin, and now DC-3 operation.  He told me that there are plans for expanding Ted’s Bulletin already, hopefully with one location in Bethesda and another one in the District.  If all goes as planned, leases could be signed this year.

I asked him what neighborhoods he was looking at in DC, but Neal said he was going to keep that to himself for now, though he does have a few places in mind. (Looks like I still have a while to convince him to come to Navy Yard.)

Neal adds that the Hill’s Ted’s only has 80 seats, and that future locations will have 120 to 150 seats depending on the available square footage.

For those of you who haven’t tried it out yet…do. Ted’s has made itself famous on the Hill in less after opening less then a year ago. It’s an old-school diner with creative dishes like The Walk of Shame, a breakfast burrito filled with sirloin steak, scrambled eggs & hashbrowns, and The Sloppiest Joe, which is exactly what it sounds like. And don’t forget the milkshakes and homemade pop-tarts.

Interestingly enough, Ted’s Barrack’s Row neighbor is popular the popular Greek tappas restaurant Cava Mezze. Cava’s recently opened up Cava Grill in Bethesda just this week…so let the (friendly competition) continue!

And don’t think for a second that Matchbox is done expanding.

With any luck, a second DC Ted’s will take some of the pressure off the original location, and then maybe their weekend hostess won’t have such a problem estimating wait times and taking names without actually adding them to the wait list. Such a shame, because it’s a great spot for weekend breakfast, but the terrible experiences we keep having just to get seated keep me away.
