Thursday, August 21: The Silver Spring Marimekko store hosts some neat events. Tonight a Goodwill at Marimekko – Vintage Trunk Show. From 5pm to close the DC Goodwill Fashionista and co. will be selling carefully-selected vintage and retro pieces for your fall wardrobe.
Friday, August 22: Sean dropped us an email as one of the djs of Fatback and reminded us that their party is moving from it’s old home at Dahlak to The Red Lounge on 14th St for the first time this month. I am told this new place is air conditioned. My dj boyfriend digs this newish party above most in the city, but that is at least 50% for the name and the great tee shirts
Saturday, August 23: The most We Love DC-ish thing this week is this: “Conversations on Local Color” at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Washington-area artists talk in conjunction with the “Local Color” exhibit about color, the creative process, and “what abstract, exuberant paintings say about the city.” It is free and at a Smithsonian. So Classic DC.
Sunday, August 24: I guess you can go see Rod Stewart at Nissan Pavilion because everything about the statement “Rod Stewart at Nissan Pavilion” makes you very, very cool.
Monday, August 25: Eat a cupcake. You know you want to.
Tuesday, August 26: Perhaps my favorite recurring themed dj night in town is Hej Hej at Saint Ex. Natalya and Melissa play lovely Scandinavian pop that makes me think about moving to Göteborg and/or wearing amazing outfits.
Wednesday, August 27: Given my personal tastes, it is not surprising that I would send you to see Imperial China at the Black Cat. The band makes slightly-angular post-punky rock of a sort that can be said to really be in the DC “sound,” but take it away from jangly garage minimalism to a more melody-focused, cinematic-sounding place.
