I know we’re all busy honoring military veterans today, but everyone needs to eat. And if you’ve got today off, you’ve got a great chance to catch some of DC’s best restaurants for cheaper: lunch!
Here are some must-try lunch specials around our fair District.
1) Kushi. Kushi recently introduced a lunch menu with sushi, bowls and skewer options and if you’ve been meaning to try the Japanese gastropub, now’s your chance. The new lunch menu offers dishes like stewed pork belly served with fresh rice or simmered chicken and egg over rice, all ranging from $8-$10. Lunch is served with miso soup and Japanese pickles, too.
2) Westend Bistro. Eric Ripert is in town this week in preparation for Capital Food Fight tonight, so I’m thinking now is a prime time to stop by WEB if you’ve never had it before. They’re also introducing the new Westend Express Lunch. Enjoy a fixed-price lunch featuring freshly prepared salad or soup to start, Toasted Ham & Cheese with truffled ham and gruyere or Grilled Vegetable Panino with oven roasted vegetables, fresh mozzarella for a main and then and Warm Madeleines or fresh House Made Cookies for dessert. All for $24.
3) 701. Recently appointed new Chef Ed Witt (who came to town for Morso and wound up at 701) has reinvigorated the DC-dining staple, and lunch is a cheap way to try out Witt’s food. Lunch is $15 for a two-course meal, and if you want a boozy lunch you can add a two wine pairings and bump the price to $35.Try the Orecchiette with Acorn Squash, Walnuts, Ricotta Salata and Sage Brown Butter; Pulled Pork Sandwich with Fennel Slaw, Sweet Potato Wedges and Onion Brioche, or Steak and Arugula Salad with Cheddar ‘Croutons,’ Fennel and Red Pepper Vinaigrette.

How about addresses?
Ugh, the service at Kushi was horrendous yesterday. 40 minutes sitting before they even brought the miso soup! No commmunication, half the order wasn’t right, and it wasn’t even all that crowded. Never Again.
to: anywhere but Kushi
This is Darren Norris, Co-Owner of Kushi. I am very disappointed to hear of your negative experience at the restaurant. We work hard to create a welcoming, casual dining spot, and the service you described will not be tolerated by our team. We are taking steps to figure out what happened during your visit and to re-enliven our welcoming service platform. I hope you will come give us another shot, and that we are able to provide a better experience to you in the future.
