Rachel: Friday night I’ll join a few friends for a little while at the Green Turtle (near the Verizon Center) to catch the action of the Caps vs the Boston Bruins. Saturday’s a big day. I’ll be watching a wonderful matinee performance of the Harvest of Harmony at AU’s Greenberg Theatre featuring the incredibly talented Barbershop group the Singing Capital Chorus and a few other Barbershop groups from the greater D.C. area. Saturday night I have my own gig at Tonic Lounge (2036 G Street NW, near GW Law School). The cover is $5 for the night and I’m the first of 5 acts. I’ll take the stage at 8 p.m. if you’re interested! Then, Sunday …. which in my world equals Brunch Day. A friend and I pick random neighborhoods and walk into a place hoping it’s good. This week’s neighborhood: Dupont Circle. Got any suggestions? Leave them in the comments!

Max: This weekend is jam packed with some interesting art events.  On Friday at the Phillips Collection, I’ll be going to “Urban Code: New Categories of Art”, a discussion with several of the street artists who are showing their work in the new “Street/Studio 2.0” exhibit at Irvine Contemporary (opening Saturday night including work by Shepard Fairey).  Following that I’ll be heading up to BloomBars in Columbia Heights to hear local arts patron and collector Henry Thaggert in his discussion, “Was Andy Warhol Black?”  Well was he?  Once I’m done using my brain for the evening, I’ll be heading down to the Corcoran for theFotoWeek Launch Party to drink and hang out with fellow photography lovers.  At some point this weekend I’ll be heading up to Silver Spring to check out the Book Arts Fair at Pyramid Atlantic because, well, I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Rebecca J: I’m out of town this weekend, but if I were staying the District on Friday I’d be hitting up Buca Di Beppo for a boisterous dinner filled with chianti and family style portions of cheese ravioli with meat sauce and chicken piccata. Saturday, brunch and some pints of cider/Guiness at James Hoban’s, while watchingEnglish Premiere League is in order. To work off the food and buzz, I’d saunter over to the Phillips Collectionto check out “TruthBeauty: Pictorialism and the Photograph as Art,” a photo collection that chronicles the development of “Photographic pictorialism” toward the end of the 19th century. Sunday, as the Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market season ended last weekend, I’d be forced to head over to the Dupont Farmers Market to pick up some fresh produce and eggs. Before ending my day with the pre-workweek chores, I’d hit up Cactus Cantina to nom on some chicken tamales. Yum!

Tom: I’m relishing the change back to Standard Time that happens on Sunday morning, if only for the delicious extra hour of sleep that it will return to me, and also for the more sanely-timed sunrises that seem to be coming later and later and later.  With the Fall here, I’m thinking this is a weekend for cooking and loving the fall, and we may do a dry run for Thanksgiving, if I can get a turkey from Eastern Market Poultry.  Since the Skins are off this weekend, I’m guessing we may try to hit The Pour House for a Steelers game on Sunday, and give We, The Pizza a try over on the Hill.  Of course, I’m still celebrating making my targets in Health Month for October, so a trip to Ray’s River East might well be in the cards, as well.

Jenn: This weekend I am celebrating the end of 10 years of home renovation. Well, not the end of ALL renovation, more like Phase 1. So what better way to party than a Champagne Festival? You could drop $125 on a ticket to the soiree at the French Embassy and sample some amazing champagnes, or you could go visit Joe Riley at Ace Beverage and pick up a bottle of Bollinger Grand Année. Or hell, get some Barefoot, I won’t judge. Just celebrate something, people.

Brittany: When my plane landed, bringing me back to reality after a dreamy week in Lisbon spent entirely overdoing it on wine, espresso, &c, I thought “Hey, maybe I should give up the booze and caffeine for a while.” Except, when I turned my phone back on, the very first message was an invitation to the newPizzeria Paradiso in Alexandria for dinner – by which we mean awesome beers – on Thursday. Oh, well. The rest of the weekend mostly takes place at Positive Force DC HQ in Columbia Heights: Friday night, therelease party for the awesome new book Girls to the Front: The True Story of the Riot Grrl Revolution. I was just a little too young for riot grrl, but as a tween girl in DC, I so badly wanted that scene to still exist for me – and I am completely excited it is sort of seeing a come-back. The next day is the Punk Rock Flea Marketwhere you will see me excited about bands and crafty things. After that, I am going out for drinks with a friend at Room 11, just a couple blocks from the church. Maybe I will quit drinking next week.

Katie: I’m starting to think about Thanksgiving, so I’ll be shopping the farmer’s market in search of the goods. Last year I got a turkey from Smith Meadows Farms, and it was quite delicious. I’m looking at all my options, but might do that again. I also will want some cute decorations for my thanksgiving table, so I’ll probably visit Arlington’s Crate & Barrel for some affordable table toppers. When I’m not preparing to feast in a few weeks, I’m going to check out Estadio‘s new brunch, and maybe some of the most recent fall cocktails in Penn Quarter from PosteCafe Atlantico or PS 7’s.

Don: For the most part my weekend revolves around painting, re-wiring, fixing floors and mudding drywall – ah home ownership, you are sooooo relaxing. The few bits of outside air I expect to see revolve around other domestic activities or We Love DC obligations. In between visits to my other new home, the hardware store, Saturday may involve a little time at the Freddie Mac Foundation’s Adoption Expo. Relax mom, we’re still window-shopping. But it’s a nice way to get a feel for the agencies operating in the area and, undoubtedly, end up on a few thousand mailing lists. Sunday is press night for Woolly Mammoth’s House of Gold, which opened this week. If we run into each other in those places please don’t be offended if I don’t shake your hand – I’ve got repetitive stress injuries from gripping a paint roller.

Tiff: I think the main thing I want this weekend is mulled cider. Preferably with bourbon. So a trip to Eastern Market for cider may be on the list, but going there with Thanksgiving coming up could be as disastrous as going to the grocery store while hungry. Everything will look good. But it must be done, because I need to figure out who we’re ordering the Thanksgiving turkey from. Suggestions are welcome.

  2. Rebecca J: Which team do you support. Hubby and I have been having a tough time finding an adequate bar in DC to watch footy. I guess there aren’t a lot of supporters down here.
