Michael: This weekend is jam packed with more good music than John Peel’s iPod. Thursday night, I’m catching Caribou at the Black Cat. Friday, it’s up to B’More for the unexpected but welcome return of Atari Teenage Riot. If it wasn’t for ATR’s return, I would be catching the Merzbow/Pinhas live collaboration at the French Embassy. Saturday, Virgin FreeFest takes over the area, where I’ll be catching everyone from Sleigh Bells to LCD Soundsystem. If I survive til Sunday night, I’ll be taking in Shonen Knife’s classic Japanese indie-rock at Rock & Roll Hotel. Look for a slew of reviews covering all of these great shows on We Love DC next week!
Rebecca J: I’m headed to Thunder Burger Bar for a Friday happy hour full of delicious burgers and tasty micro brews. Personally, I’m looking forward to tasting Coney Island “Sword Swallower” from Saratoga Springs, NY. The Saturday tradition of soccer in the morning and College Football continues. Luckily this week’s Mizzou and Notre Dame matches are at 2pm and 3pm, so I’ll actually have a post-game night life this week. Sunday, I have a dreadfully early soccer match, but at least that will have me up and out of the house, so I can hit up the Dupont Farmers Market. After that I believe a nap will be in order, before heading to Breadsoda for their Sunday happy hour specials, a tasty Reuben and some NFL action.
Shannon: I’m getting out to enjoy some glorious fall weather this weekend. Saturday is both the Barracks Row Fall Festival (featuring music, tours of the area, a cook-off, and lots of good food) and the Clarendon Day Festival (which features music, vendors, and great food from Clarendon restaurants). I can’t decide between them, so I think I’ll go to both. On Sunday I’m hoping to run the Navy 5-Miler in preparation for next month’s Army 10-Miler. And after that, I’ll head out to one of my favorite wineries in Northern Virginia for a bottle of red and a hammock to enjoy it in.

Erin: This weekend is all about conquering personal fears for me. Sprung temporarily from my normal work-all-weekend schedule, I’m heading to Delaware for some much-needed beach time (fall, what fall? It’s like 90 degrees out there). More importantly, while there, I’ll be running my first 5K ever: the Dogfish Dash, on the theory that if you do something huge and healthy, you might as well follow it up with tons of beer early in the morning. After that, I’m spending every free minute working on my talk for Ignite DC next week (tickets still available!), because what better way to get more comfortable speaking in public that to, well, just freaking do it. And in case the race doesn’t kill me, if I make it back in time Sunday night, I’m going to flip a coin between seeing the Eels show at 9:30 Club and Shonon Knife at Rock and Roll Hotel, both longtime favorites who guarantee a great night out.
Don: A probable move is motivating us to do some fall cleaning but we’re still going to find some time for a little leisure. After all, the sands are running out on the boys of summer and if we don’t make it out to Nationals Stadium for a game before the 29th it’s gonna be a long wait. I think we’ll wait for Saturday or Sunday though, what with the heat wave not breaking till then. Saturday may also involve a little plant-peeping since it’s the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days in four local gardens that aren’t normally open to the public.
Patrick: I’m going to reveal a secret: I’m going shopping this weekend and I’m looking forward to it. Now I’m no weekend regular at Pentagon City or something but my approach for wardrobe management involves a couple of all-day outlet shopping sessions to stock-up for the Summer & Winter. The question now is which outlets to hit: Leesburg Corner? Potomac Mills? Hagerstown? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Besides my foray into consumer spending I will also be heading up to Dover International Speedway to the AAA 400. I’ve never been to a NASCAR event and luckily it’s only a little over 2 hours away. Any reader advice what to do at the raceway will also be appreciated- I wouldn’t want to stick out as the city slicker around the track.

Tiff: I’m kicking the weekend off Friday night by catching Silver Spring native Lewis Black at the Warner Theatre. The next morning I’m headed out to the National Book Festival with a camera. Sunday is for sleeping, but no doubt I’ll be out looking for a bar to watch football in.
Patrick – definitely Leesburg over Potomac Mills! It’s outdoors and Saturday should be a beautiful day. Plus, I would pick any drive over I-95.
Anyone going to the National Book Festival?
I am, Jay, as I said in my blurb.
Be sure to stop by the 17th Street Fine Arts Festival, too.
Since Ticketfly shut me out of MF fest tickets not once but 3 times, I’m driving to the Outer Banks Saturday instead of Sunday. Other than missing Pavement, my one regreat of being gone is also missing Shonen Knife at the R&R Hotel. I’m glad to see that some folks are getting excited about their show, as it ought to be a lot of fun. Hopefully, the ininitiated will take a chance and go – I suspect they will be pleasantly surprised.
