To promote the launch of their new series, “Hardcover Mysteries,” this fall, Investigation Discovery is holding a cool event at the Library of Congress on Monday night, and we’ve got two tickets to give away.

“Hardcover Mysteries” will feature 8 novelists, each talking about a criminal case of particular significance to them, whether it directly inspired one of their books, or it reflects themes common in their work, or affects them in some other way. On Monday night, David Baldacci, Sandra Brown, and Kathy Reichs will speak in the Library’s Thomas Jefferson Auditorium about their chosen case.

Baldacci’s even has a local angle- the 1964 murder of DC socialite Mary Pinchot Meyer, who was rumored to have had an affair with President Kennedy and whose ex-husband was a CIA official. And of course Kathy Reich is the author of the Temperance Brennan novels, which are not set in DC, but the TV series based on them (sort of), “Bones,” is indeed set here.

Tickets are $2.75 each, plus Ticketmaster fees (which can cost more than the tickets as you know), the doors open at 6, and the fun starts at 7. If you can’t make it at all, you can catch the live feed at investigationdiscovery.com/event

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment below, and suggest the novelist you’d be most interested in hearing expound on criminal cases. A winner will be picked at random Thursday at noon, and you MUST leave a valid email address so we can contact you.

  1. I think this sounds like a super fun idea. I would love to hear from Donna Leon, her books set in Venice are so addicting. It’d be interesting to see how much of it’s based on real events.

  2. Actually–my top pick was already chosen! I was a Kathy Reichs fan before “Bones” aired. And now even more so.

Second choice: Philippa Gregory. I know all of her novels are historical fiction(and, I’ll admit, slightly trashy, but fantastic quick reads) and it would be great to see a perspective on how crimes were viewed in the 15th century versus today and a discussion on the evolution of criminal law.

  3. If the LoC had a time machine I’d love to hear from Edgar Allen Poe. Bet that guy’s Baltimore would make The Wire look like Disneyland.

  4. I would love, actually, to hear from either of the Kellermans and see if there were any real cases that inspired their work.
