Grab your puppy and head to Jackson 20 in Old Town, Alexandria to celebrate Earth Day at Jackson 20. As Earth Day falls on a Thursday, guests can bring their four-legged friends and enjoy the restaurant’s popular Doggie Happy Hour. On the 22nd, the restaurant will officially unveil “J20 Eco Hour,” where an unusually large selection of canned beers and boxed wines will be available. Now this may not sound particularly classy (slap the bag anyone?) but canned beer is much more eco-friendly than glass, easier to recycle and cheaper to ship. The new beer program will feature $2 “Working Man’s Canned Beer,” with selections like Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, Iron City Light, Yuengling, Stroh’s Light, and $5 “Craft Canned Beer” featuring Hienniewisse, Mama’s Little Yellow Pils, AVBC Pale Ale, Porkslap Pale Ale, Old Chub Scottish Ale, and Moo Thunder Stout. Boxed Bandit Cabernet or Chardonnay is available $4.
Don’t forget to wash all that beer down with some food! Food specials from Chef Dennis Marron’s menu go for $5, including BBQ pork sliders, tater tots, a giant soft pretzel, fried green tomatoes, and J20 Fries. From Earth Day onwards, Eco Hour will be available daily at Jackson 20 between 3 and 7 p.m.
Can’t get to Old Town in time for puppy happy hour? The restaurant will also kick off its “Late Night Blackout Happy Hour” on Earth Day. Jackson 20 wants to regularly save energy, so starting on April 22nd, and available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 p.m. to close, the restaurant will replace all electrical lights with candle light, crank up the music, and serve their Eco Hour beer and wine specials all over again. The “Late Night Blackout Happy Hour” (drink specials only) will be available at the restaurant every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the spring and summer months.
