Nationals
Record: 3-3
Last Two Weeks: 3-3
Place: 4th in the NL East

After a rough start against Philly, the Nats have rebounded well, taking 2 of 3 from the Mets.  The Nats sent down Garrett Mock, and placed Mike Morse on the DL after rough starts for both of them.  Mock will spend the next several starts in AAA Syracuse being reminded that perhaps it’s a good idea not to walk five batters in your first 3 1/3. Scott Olsen will be coming up to take his spot in the rotation this week.

The Nats head down to Philadelphia for three games, and hopefully there will be some payback for the whupping we got in Washington to open the season. After that, it’s a 9-game homestand at Nats Park, including our outing on the 21st.

Down on the farm, Steven Strasburg had his first start against Altoona on Sunday. His final line, via Dave Sheinin of the Post: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. He threw 82 pitches, 55 for strikes. I’m told he kept his velocity up, and looked good in his professional regular season debut. Stras did pick up the win.

Whew. Regular season’s all done, and you know what that means: Playoff Time. Caps had a strong finish to their season, and now will face the #8-seeded Habs in the first round of the Playoffs. Look for more detail from Ben in his hockey playoff preview later this week. Suffice it to say: It’s a good time to be a Caps fan. Bring it, NHL.

Wizards
Record: 25-55
Last Two Weeks: 4-3
Place: 2nd to Last

Tonight’s game in New York will be the Wizards’ second to last for the season, before they finish at home against Indiana on Wednesday. The end of the season is such a relief, I’m sure, to the Wizards who spent much of the year struggling. The Wiz have piled on some wins to end the season, but it’s not enough to take them to a respectable finish. Tough luck, everyone, we’ll see you next year.

D.C. United
Record: 0-3
Last Two Weeks: 0-2
Place: Last, with 0 points

Sébastian Le Toux managed a hat trick against United in the home opener for the expansion Philadelphia Union on Saturday, leaving United still oh-fer in the points column. Aaron Morrissey rode up with the Philly Invasion crew from DC and has a full gamer from Saturday’s tough loss. The good news? The scoring drought is over. United put a couple in the net, with Santino and Jaime putting one in each in the 63rd and 70th minutes respectively. Unfortunately, in addition to have difficulty protecting Troy Perkins in goal, United got a bit card-happy, drawing five yellows and a red against Philly.

United returns to the field at RFK against the Chicago Fire this Saturday night at 7:30. We’ll be there, come join us, won’t you?
