I’ll be honest with you, reader. I just didn’t feel like putting together foodie round-up today, but I didn’t want to leave you hanging. So instead, like a good food blogger, I decided to write about the flurry of restaurants expected to open this month. So on with you, we’ve got greek, latin-asian fusion, a gastropub, and beer drinker’s heaven coming atcha in October.
Kellari, the traditional Greek seafood restaurant is looking to open on October 15 in the old Restaurant K space. The fish, which will be sold by the pound, is selected from the seafood display, grilled to order with the simplest of ingredients and then presented tableside.
AGAINN, the new 140-seat British-inspired gastropub opening near Mt. Vernon Square is slated to open its doors on October 27th. Againn will become home to traditional pub fare executed with a contemporary approach, featuring the best of locally-sourced organic ingredients, an extensive beer and Scotch program and artisanal cocktails.
Kaz Okochi and Richard Sandoval partnered to launch Masa 14, the new 100-seat Latin-Asian hotspot opening at 1825 14th Street, NW is slated to open on October 12. The all-small plates menu will incorporate Asian and Latin flavors, and will be priced from $6 to $14.
Word is that beer-driven Birch and Barley is also going to be opening in the next two weeks, I hear exciting things about the ginormous beer list (555 beers!) and the multi-level space on 14th street. I also hear that Ris Lacoste has been spotted “holding court” conducting staff interviews at a card table outside her L street location, Sietsema seems to think we’re close to launch.
Do you have any info on two new places opening on 7th St. in the Penn Quarter? I was walking by there the other day and saw beverage control notices in the windows for a bar (Iron Horse) and a restaurant (Carmine’s). Don’t know anything about them, but apparently they’re coming.
Thanks for asking, Kevin. I’ve got an email out to the group that owns Carmine’s and will let you know. Iron Horse seems un-googleable. How ghastly. You know what I’m RULL excited about coming to Penn Quarter? Wagamamas. Oh man.
