Let’s be honest with each other, DC. I love concerts, and sometimes there’s nothing better than being smashed up against other screaming people that love a band as much as you do. But sometimes I find myself thinking, I wish I could feel the A/C in this joint. And sit. And be able to set my beer on a table. And have the concert be free. There aren’t many music venues like this in the DC area, but Wednesday night Fireflies in Del Ray hosted three ladies on the Quest For Glory Tour: Bess Rogers, Lelia Broussard, and Allison Weiss.
Bess, Lelia, and Allison are all singer/songwriters who are individually using the internet to their advantage. All of them are on Twitter, but some of them seem to have taken the social networking thing to the extreme (coughVampireFreakscough). They decided to go on tour, despite not knowing each other, and thus the Quest for Glory Tour– and a beautiful friendship– was born.

One of the benefits of being in a venue so small is that not only can you hear yourself think, you can hear the singers really well. Not everyone was paying 100% attention, of course, which was OK because their songs make for fine background music when hitting on people at a bar. But since I was paying attention, I found their lyrics to be clever and I could relate to most of them. I especially liked Allison Weiss’ song “I Don’t Want to Be Here.” Those girls have emotions, and they are going to sing about them to you. In a very catchy way. The sound was also fairly good for a venue that is technically a restaurant in its full time job.
The best part of the night was the knighting. They were accepting applications from audience members to be knighted throughout the show, and then at the end they drew a name and called someone up. The lucky guy (pictured at the top) was on a first date, which is either awesome or extremely embarassing. When they asked the girl whether it was the best date she had ever been on, she just kind of shrugged, which was great.
The next stop on the tour is tonight (Friday, August 14) at Cyclops Books & Music in Baltimore, MD.
