If you came to the Geek 2 Chic fashion event – where men from the world of technology are dressed up and sent down a runway – expecting amazing makeovers before your eyes, you might be disappointed. After all, many of the amateur models at this charity fundraiser were hardly pocket-protector-sporting hopeless cases when they arrived at the Chevy Chase Bloomingdale’s store on Tuesday. Instead, as hostess Angie Goff mentioned as they strutted confidently along, several of these gentlemen had been previously named to lists like The Hill’s Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill.
Representing a wide swath of “geeks,” the men included online media, public policy wonks, start-up entrepreneurs, science teachers, and executives at industry leaders like event sponsor Microsoft.
Among the biggest rounds of applause was heard for Jabious Williams, a graduate of the educational program provided by the non-profit beneficiary of Geek 2 Chic, Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Founded by an executive who wanted to show less-privileged young people how to start their own businesses, NFTE helped Jabious start his own photography business and use the money he now earns to give back to his community.
This event was presented in conjunction with the on-going DC Digital Capital Week and is one of two Geek 2 Chic events held each year, one in DC and one in Chicago.
So much fun!
