Cupcakes are all the rage these days, but this weekend I stumbled upon a new one to me: the Lavender Moon Cupcakery in Old Town Alexandria. I’m not usually a food blogger, but I do know my baked goods, and these were pretty freaking fantastic. That chocolate-dipped coconut one (on the right) is the stuff of food dreams, with a super-light frosting the consistency of marshmallow, and the flourless chocolate one was like a combo brownie-cupcake. Yum.

I had them right after the first opened, but the cupcakes were too heavy for me – the cake and frosting were overwhelmingly rich and dense. Maybe they’ve improved since then?

that is a very pretty picture, yo! also, i’m drooling.
@Jenna- the flourless chocolate one was super rich and moist, but the coconut one was so light and fluffy, it was closer to angel food cake than a typical cupcake.
@Katie- yeah man the little eating area inside was seriously precious, with those pink stripes on the walls! i couldn’t get enough.
