The past few days I’ve been in New York City on business, and never before have I been struck with such love for our city. I’ve already aired my grievances about the big apple, but this trip particularly reinforced my love of the capital. Walking off the Acela into Union Station truly felt like coming home. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I spotted the Capitol through the double doors. New York is fine, but DC is where it’s at, yo.

Convenient I should write for a blog called We Love DC, now isn’t it? So I distilled the things I love about DC down into five pictures, for your viewing pleasure. We can call it an Ode To The Things I Love About DC Today… And thus I share it with you…

1) Union Station is NOT Penn Station. Thank GOD. Penn Station is chaos and flusterclucking at it’s finest, and makes me want to scream a little. Union station is gorgeous, classy, and much calmer.

2) Our Metro is better. Way better. Our Metro lines don’t randomly turn around and go the opposite direction without warning, and I don’t usually know for 100% certain someone just urinated where I am standing.

3) Look at that GORGEOUS sky, and raking sunlight. Oh, and empty, spacious sidewalk. People may walk by me, and near me, but they’re not usually on top of me.

4) Expansive green space, just waiting to be lounged on, in little (or big) pockets, spread out all over the city.

5) NYC is full of workaholics. DC is full of workaholics that actually do something.

    on my walk back from union station after returning from NYC last night, there was a father and son duo flying a kite at dusk in the elementary school parking lot at 4th and G NE. The intense DC winds never felt so good.

  3. One of the greatest travesties of architectural pillage in the 1960’s was the demolition of the old Penn Station. Everytime I go back to NYC I just shudder having to go through the ninth circle of hell that took its place. Check out the pics and weep at what was lost…

    One of the greatest triumphs of the 1980’s was the revitalization of our Union Station. So grateful for that!

    I have to agree with Tim S. Metro versus NY trains? There’s no comparison.

  8. Love this I walk around DC all the time like a tourist and I’m from DC. The metro is waaaay better than NY transit hands down. I felt like dumping hand sanitizer on my whole body when I got off there transit lol Just joking NY is cool to visit but I love my city
