Buy Cupcakes and Support your Local Roller Derby Girls

While the DC Rollergirls may not be made of sugar and spice, Buzz Bakery is serving up some sweet cupcakes that are. Both Virginia locations of the bakery are selling two varieties of cupcakes until September 18th that will raise money for the to raise awareness and support the DC Rollergirl’s East Region Playoffs, “Nightmare on 95” in Baltimore on September 16-18.

The two cupcakes created by executive pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac are the “Dorris Dayngerous,” a pink chiffon cake with raspberry jam and lemon buttercream, and the “Whiskey Houston,” a Johnny Walker-brown sugar cake with an Buffalo Trace-apple butter and a Jameson-vanilla buttercream. The two tough cupcakes are $4 each. Get ’em while their hot and support your gals on roller skates.

Correction: Buzz Bakery is offering the cupcakes in support of the DC Rollergirls team, but the proceeds from the cupcakes are not going to the roller derby team.

10/02: DC Rollergirls 2010 Season Kick Off

On Saturday, October 2nd, the DC Rollergirls kick off their 2010 season with the Cherry Blossom Bombshells taking on the DC Demoncats at 4pm. For those of you who haven’t yet experienced some girl-on-girl rollerderby action, what the heck are you waiting for?!!

There’s campy player names (Miso Knotty, Ridin Dirty, Ovary Action, Marion Barracuda, etc.,) full-contact rules, high levels of athleticism, intense amounts of strategic action, the possibility of being tackled by a rollergirl if you stand near the sidelines and, the kicker, no beer lines (FYI: it’s cash only). Oh, the matches are kid friendly as well, so bring the little tikes with you!

Beloved WLDC readers, it is your lucky day! We have 2 tickets to give away to the upcoming Championship bout of roller derby. The match-up pits the DC DemonCats against the Cherry Blossom Bombshells on Saturday, May 9th, at the Armory. Doors open at 4, match begins at 5 p.m. 

How do you score yourself a sweet ticket to this madness? Answer below, in the comments, if you were a DC RollerGirl, what would your roller derby name be? An explanation of why it suits you afterward would be added fun.  For those unfamiliar with the sport might want to check out the league rosters for example names. Fun fact: there’s a national database of registered player aliases, and no two names and numbers can be the same.
