When I said last week that we would be paying for those Spring-like temperatures later in the Winter, I wasn’t expecting it to be the next weekend. Man it was cold. I’d do some comparisons but I’ll just leave it at the scientific cold. As such, it looks like most people stayed in doors for the long weekend, only venturing out here and there.

I know how tough the Tuesday morning can be after a long weekend, so kick back and enjoy your morning beverage with some pics from the site’s Flickr pool. Oh, and I hope you’re staying warm! Continue reading

How did everyone enjoy their Spring weekend in the middle of Winter? Personally, I was both shocked and pleased to be walking around without a jacket on. However, as a friend of mine said this weekend, you just know we’re going to be paying for this weather later in the year. But let’s worry about those 30 degree days in May when they come. Check out what our photogs saw during the good weather and relive 60ish weather in January. Continue reading

Four days left in 2011. It has been a doozy of a year: government shutdowns, and people exercising their right to protest. Evil men dying, and squeal worthy, cute animals. Big events; personal milestones; and sad farewells. And throughout the year, our contributors to the We Love DC Flickr pool have kept the photos coming. While none are Pulitzer-prize winning pictures (despite their excellent quality), they do mark the passage of time here in our home city.

We decided to do a “year in review” of photographs for 2011. The majority are shots from the pool, with a few special ones sprinkled here and there for big events (or cute animals). I hope you’ll take a few minutes and look through them all, and think back on the year. And let’s make a resolution to keep the top-notch photos coming in for 2012! Or better still, you’ll start contributing photos in the New Year… Continue reading

Over the past few weeks, in this column, I’ve been talking about all the holidays that come around this month: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa. But I’ve left out the most important holiday; the one that is most overlooked and whose practitioners are most oppressed. That’s right, Festivus. It’s coming up on Friday. Sure, to everyone it’s nothing more than a Festivus Pole and Feats of Strength. But did you know you also get to tell everyone you know how they’ve disappointed you during the past year? After a year like 2011, this is a holiday I can get behind!

I really don’t know how to end this article, so I’m just going to call it a Festivus Miracle and say look at these great pics from the weekend. Enjoy! Continue reading

Christmas Season is in full swing! If you haven’t done it already, you’ll be spending this coming week and weekend doing shopping, tree raising, and party planning. And after that, then all those last minute people (such as myself) will get to work; so leave some for us lazy people. And to distract you…I mean entertain you, for a little while, check out this past weekend in photos. Continue reading

One more weekend down. The inevitable march to the Holidays and the New Year goes on. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m looking forward to the coming of the Holiday Trinity, for no other reason than to get the traditional Kwanzaa gift. If the idea of Robot Santa and Kwanzaa-bot coming around fills you with dread, then take a few minutes and relive the weekend with this flashback. Continue reading

For a weekend that was half the week, a whole lot was accomplished. We survived the Attack of the Killer Turkeys, where it was eat or be eaten. I hope you took out as many turkeys as you could. Then we survived the “Day That Should NOT Be Named” on Friday. I don’t care how good the sales are, that many people rushing for a cheap TV, that early in a day, should be against the law! And, lastly, some of us got to see the new Muppet Movie; 80s Robot was a particularly awesome spot. Before you dig into that pile of work on your desk (and by that I mean all that online shopping), take a few minutes to look at how our photo contributors spent their weekend. Oh, and good luck with Cyber Monday…I mean, “work.” ;O)

It was the short, long weekend, before the big, Turkey long weekend. And judging by the pictures, people took advantage of the extra day. And all of us at We Love DC hope you had an especially memorable 11/11/11; either by honoring our nation’s veterans, or by wearing corduroy…wait, that doesn’t make sense. Eh, I had to work on Friday, so my brain doesn’t have that special rest everyone else has. Whether you are rested or not, check out the pictures from the weekend; they are of particularly good note this time around! Continue reading

We have officially fallen back. Now it’s the long, dark road to the Winter Solstice. But along the way is turkey day, seeing old Saint Nick, and an out of nowhere day off called Veterans Day (well, not all of us get Veterans Day off). And let’s not forget that this Friday is also Nigel Tufnel Day; because it goes to eleven (11/11/11). So though we lose some light, we gain some fun things to do; it all evens out. Check out below for what people did with the last light of Daylight saving time. Continue reading

Well, the chill is in the air for good, it seems, though we’re still feeling it a lot more at night than during the day. But we’re not going to let that stop us from enjoying those delightful 48 hours between quittin’ time Friday till the sad moments Monday morning when we return to our punishment jobs.

Marissa: This weekend is promising to be a busy one. Friday night I’m heading to 9th and U street to see my friends’ band, Level 7, headline at Axum DC. On Saturday, I’m heading out to the second annual Vices of Virginia for bourbon, cigars, oysters, a photobooth and a ton of food all on a scenic farm. Me and my tastebuds are beyond excited. Hopefully Sunday morning I’ll mosey over to Eastern Market, grab some brunch, read the paper and settle into the idea of Monday.

Mosley: Interesting Saturday for me.  I recently went to see the Anglo-Saxon Gold Hoard exhibit at the National Geographic Museum (review coming soon); put very simply, well worth seeing.  But in addition to the exhibit, Nat Geo is doing some workshops in connection with the exhibit.  This Saturday is one about Anglo-Saxon poetry and language, using Beowulf as the example.  It sounds fascinating.  In addition to that, this weekend kicks off FotoWeek DC.  I might be the only photographer in the city not thrilled with this festival, but there are some intriguing events.  For example, Saturday night is Night Visions; basically an all night (8pm to 4am) photo party.  I’m equally interested in the staying up all night and the night photography.  And bonus: extra hour as we Fall back!

It’s the big day. A day of ghosts and ghouls. A day of thrills and chills. A day…well, a couple of months really, of candy. It’s all hallows eve! I hope you and your little goblins have some frightful costumes in store for trick-or-treating tonight. If you need to get ready for the big night, I suggest checking out the pictures below. A lot of people got a head start on the festivities this weekend. And snow is just oh so scary in this town. And before I forget: Happy Halloween! Continue reading

The theme for this weekend’s flashback seems to be occupations and liberations. Not only the obvious ones, like Occupy DC and the local Libyan populations celebrations of the liberation of their homeland; but also some liberations from conventional forms of photography and our city’s ongoing occupation with enjoying this wonderful weather…yes, that last one is a stretch but please just go with it. Enjoy the Autumn bounty of wonderful photos. Get lost and enjoy yourself for a few minutes! Continue reading

The first good weekend of Fall is behind us. Judging by the photos in our Flickr pool, you all took advantage of the excellent weather. I always describe this time of year as one of the best times to be in Washington. Cool but not cold weather; clear skies and still plenty of light; and lots of things to do. Check out the photos below to relive a bit of the nice weekend. Continue reading

The last week of September is upon us. For me, this has always signaled the true end of summer. Last bout of muggy, humid weather; baseball is heading into the playoffs; the football season is in full swing; and the days are ending much too quickly. Yep, the summer is ending. Well, at least we have cooler weather and good harvest foods to look forward to! Oh, and some fascinating light in our group’s photo pool. Come, take a look! Continue reading

We got through a trying weekend. Whether it was from the anniversary; potential of something happening on or around the anniversary; the gridlock caused by all the events surrounding the anniversary; or just the regular trials and tribulations of NFL opening weekend (HAIL!), this is a weekend I’m sure we all will like to see recede into memory. But before you start writing off the past few days, take a brief moment to look back and see what memories there are from the weekend. Continue reading
