Our roving band of photographic contributors were out in force this weekend documenting all the city had to offer. Many went over to the H St Festival which is always an excellent place for fun, candid shots. Others ventured outside city limits, while several ended up visiting the tallest obelisk in the world. If that’s not enough to entice you to scroll down let me just say wiener dogs. In a stroller. Get ready to squee people.

Weekend Flashback: 9/13-9/15
Is everyone enjoying this preview of late fall we’re having? Except for that brief two days of summer last week, it seems we’ve only had fall days since July. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining because they’re always appreciated. In fact, let’s hope these types of days continue well into December!
Our trusty photogs certainly took advantage of the weather, capturing a great slice of this fall life we’re living. So please, sit back, ignore your boss screaming for your attention, and enjoy the sights of the weekend. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 9/06-9/08
One of my favorite things about photography is capturing dramatic light. Sure the subject is important but sometimes the shot needs a little something extra. How about adding some blinding sun rays or maybe some lens flare? Maybe instead of adding light you focus on the dark causing what little light there is to stand out like a beacon. It’s all about experimentation. If you haven’t played with light in your photographs yet I encourage you to do so; it will open a whole world of possibilities into your work. As it happens many of our photo contributors managed to capture some amazing light this weekend. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Weekend Flashback: 8/30-9/02
There goes summer. And we’re all back to work and/or school. Well, let’s try and imagine it’s still the weekend for a little bit longer. Since we had a three day weekend, we’ve got a extra large Flashback for you, so get that second cup of coffee and ignore that pile of work on your desk. You’ll appreciate this break later. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 8/23-8/25
This is the week I consider the real end of summer. Kids, even college kids, are heading back to school in droves; pools start closing for the season; and the movies that are released in theaters for the next month are completely awful. We only have Labor Day weekend to put the final nail in the coffin of summer. So start stocking up on BBQ supplies, because you’ve only got five days left to the last barbecuing holiday of the season.
To get you in the mood for the weekend, check out the photos in today’s Flashback. Our photo contributors have outdone themselves with this weekend! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 8/16-8/18
Half of the weekend was awesome (Saturday), and the other half was kind of crappy…yet turning into quite nice (Sunday). Honestly, for middle of August, I’ll take the fall-ish weather however it comes. Sadly, high 80s and low 90s are coming back this week. October in August was fun while it lasted.
Without thinking of the hot weather ahead of us, why don’t we look behind us at this weekend? As always, our excellent photographers captured a wonderful swath of life in the area. So put up your feet and check out their hard work! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 8/9-8/11
Alright, most of us are either on vacation or “working” this month. Blessings on all you poor souls who have to actually work (that’s with no ironic quotes). If you’re just “working,” do the best you can to look busy. But if you are working, try to keep this Monday at bay with this collection of photos from the weekend. Enjoy! And try to do as little work as possible. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 8/2-8/4
And slow, slow August begins! If you’re reading this from the office, I hope that I can burn at least 15 minutes of your day. After all, August is the December of the summer: everyone takes time off and only the busy worker bees are still around. Speaking as a busy little bee, let me help my fellows out with a good Flashback; you will enjoy it. So, really, take your time and enjoy every photo in this post. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 7/26-7/28
Another weekend has come and gone. Let’s try to keep the “Mondays” at bay for a little longer, and relive some small bit the weekend! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 7/19-7/21
There didn’t seem to be much of a break in the heat this weekend, so the Dog Days keep on biting. And the rest of the week sounds hot, with scattered summer (meaning random) rain showers. Which all just means “fun.”
On the plus side, we’ve got another great Weekend Flashback, packed with some awesome photos. Check it out from your nicely AC’ed office. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 7/12-7/14
Let’s get this week started! Check out the photos below; enjoy them immensely; and then let’s hustle through the week. Ready…go. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 7/5-7/7
Like all of the fireworks, I’m completely popped after this weekend! Now I need a weekend to recover from the weekend. Still, good times; hot as heck, but good times. Hopefully your weekend was as enjoyable. If not, check out this extra-strength Weekend Flashback and see how our photo contributors spent their three days off. Given the wide breath of subjects, people spent their time doing all the things.
Oh…and the Fireworks Flashback is coming shortly! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 6/28-6/30
And July is here. And we have fireworks this week! Sorry, but I love any celebration that involves fireworks, so I’m a real sucker for the Fourth. The good news is that most people have a short, three day week, as only the worst of employers don’t give their offices Friday off as well. But between here and Thursday, may I suggest doing as little work as you can; just as our forefathers envisioned!
And to start off that not doing work, take the first couple of minutes of your week and check out the photos in this today’s Weekend Flashback. It’s another excellent selection. Enjoy! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 6/21-6/23
The “Super Moon” has come and gone. Now we don’t have to deal with all those covered up cases of lycanthropy…don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about! How else do you explain all that howling in Adams Morgan on Friday and Saturday nights?
Anyways…oh, yes, the Flashback. Photos! Another grand selection. Enjoy them with your morning cup of joe or bakery confection. And I will stop using fancy words and phrases now, so you can enjoy this post; which is ~14% bigger in honor of this latest full moon. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 6/14-6/16
Well, we’re into summer! Great, warm weather and nice sunny skies…assuming it’s not the afternoon, which can be rainy. But anyways, we hope everyone had a great Flag Day on Friday and a equally great Father’s Day on Sunday; it certainly was a great weekend for celebrating people and things. Looks like the sun will be peeking in and out of clouds all week, so enjoy any great weather you can.
Getting back to the weekend, with great weather comes great photos, as our photo contributors aren’t cooped up inside all the time. And they came through again with another great crop of photos; enjoy them! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 6/7-6/9
I’m gathering, from all of the great photos in our Flickr pool, that almost all of our readers went to the Capital Pride Parade in DuPont over the weekend. There are many more excellent photos, so I’d recommend checking out our pool. FYI: if you’re at work, there are a few images that might be considered NSFW, so fair warning. Hopefully your office won’t mind and you can check out the great photos.
Moving right along: sadly, it’s another work week. And we get to start this one off with at least one day of cloudy and rainy. But we have these great photos from the weekend; so let’s relive it to brighten up this dreary Monday! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 5/31-6/2
I will bet everyone you will meet today will be in one of three moods. First mood is recovering shell shock from last night’s Game of Thrones episode; second mood is smugness at having read the books months/years ago and knowing what was going to happen; or, third, aloofness at not watching Game of Thrones at all. I won’t give away spoilers here, but I will say I’m in the second mood.
Regardless of GoTs, here we are again on a Monday morning with a normal five day week ahead of ourselves. Let us gird ourselves and meet it head on…by checking out photos from the weekend. Excellent as always and guaranteed to keep the work week at bay for at least two more minutes. Enjoy! Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 5/24-5/27
Well, that Memorial Day weekend went by way too fast. And it was definitely not the beginning of the hot, hot summer that we are normally use to. But it’s sounding like the heat is just days away, so get ready to sweat.
Today’s Weekend Flashback is one of our larger ones, because of the three day weekend and the abundance of great photos. So, sit back and enjoy the photos before enjoying the second best thing about a three day weekend: a four day work week. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 5/17-5/19
Memorial Day Weekend is in five days. Memorial Day Weekend is in five days. Memorial Day Weekend is in five days…well, come on, repeat it with me and it will get here faster. Wait, wait…I’m being told that actually does not work. Shucks. Well, I’m out of ideas. I guess we have to just wait for this week to get itself done.
Despite a dreary weekend, our photo contributors got some great shots. So ignore that work on your desk, just like everyone else in your office this week, and enjoy some sights from the weekend. Continue reading
Weekend Flashback: 5/10-5/12
Another weekend is in the history books. On the upside: two weeks till Memorial Day Weekend! On the downside: two WEEKS till Memorial Day Weekend?! We can make it. Mainly because most sane people don’t do anything the week of Memorial Day. And before I’m corrected, think about it: there are no major, three day holidays between Presidents Day (Feb) and Memorial Day (May). And most people don’t even get President’s Day off; you’d have to go back to MLK Day in January! Four to five months of no breaks; why do we do this to ourselves?
Well, enough philosphizing; let’s get to the Flashback. We’ve got some excellent photos once again; so put your feet up, let that ringing phone go to voice-mail, and enjoy a small piece of the last three days. Continue reading
