Happy 2009!

Yes, I’m a few days late. I hope your celebrations weren’t too disruptive to your weekend frolicking. From what I’ve seen on Flickr, it seems that everyone was out and about in the area, despite the chilly air.

We’ll be announcing our Holiday Photo Contest winner and runner-up later this week, so stay peeled to We LoveDC! In the meantime, we’ve got museums, metro, cupcakes and Caps for this Monday’s flashback. Please visit these photographers’ flickr streams; some have some great info on their photos. Also let them know you saw their shot right here on Weekend Flashback.

On with the show! Continue reading

Welcome back, everyone! Hope your holiday weekend was fantastic and you weren’t sick (like I was). I had a hard time selecting photos from our recent four-day extended weekend, so I’m sure you won’t mind a larger portion of Flashback today.

A quick reminder that there’s only a few days left in our Holiday Photo Contest, which ends Jan 1, 2009 – you know, after the parties and hangovers have passed but before you have to drag yourselves back to work. Please don’t miss out on this, as we’ve got some seriously cool prizes to hand out. Our panel of judges – i.e. all of us bloggers here at WLDC – will start combing through photos on Friday, so make sure you upload yours ASAP.

After the jump, a pleasantly big mix of photos from locals and visitors to our fair area over the last four days. Continue reading

There’s a little over ten days left in our first Holiday Photo Contest; have you submitted an entry yet? I’ve seen several great photos – but I have to say that if you want your photo to be eligible you have to follow all the rules, not just putting in the “WLDC holiday 2008” tags. We’d hate to disqualify someone’s photo simply because it didn’t follow all the guidelines. And believe me, there are some great shots so far. I know you have some as well, so why not enter?

It’s a free entry, you can submit up to five, and the prizes are top-notch. What are you waiting for?

Meanwhile, here’s a taste of what everyone did this past weekend. Are we ready for the holidays yet?

Crazy-beautiful weekend, with cold temps to remind us what month we’re in, and a clear blue sky yesterday that made you ignore said cold.

We’re halfway through the holiday season; have you thought about entering our first Holiday Photo Contest? I’ve put up a couple of the entries we’ve seen so far in the flickr pool; hope these inspire you to get out there and take your own photos to enter – just don’t get into any fights, okay?

So this weekend was the true first holiday weekend – that is, if you count the holiday from the time the National Tree is lit through New Year’s Eve. I figure it’s from Turkeypocalypse Day through Hangover Day, but that’s just me.

Regardless, you were all out in force this past weekend, taking advantage of, well, pretty much everything going on. From holiday decor to Matchbox’s new location to new babies to Santarchy, it was a pretty full weekend. (I’ll politely ignore Maryland’s epic FAIL on Saturday night on I-270 since I was caught in it – and have the car damage to prove it.)

I’m also going to take the opportunity to remind everyone of our Holiday Photo Contest. Simply upload your photo to Flickr, drop it in the WeLoveDC group, tag it with “WLDC holiday 2008″ and look for our results in the new year. We’ve got some seriously awesome prizes and entry is FREE! So go, do it! You know you totally want to.

Hope everyone had a great holiday / extended weekend. While everyone was digesting food and recovering from family visits, November snuck out the door. Welcome to December!

First off, we’ve got some exciting news for you! Today we’re kicking off our first-ever photo contest, and you’re all invited! Of course, I should explain the rules before just cutting you all loose…

The theme is “Holidays in DC” which means that yes, every photo submitted must reflect the holiday / winter season in our area.

From new theater openings to the reopening of the NMAH, from yard work to group fun, you guys really made the most of this past weekend. Sooooo many good photos, I couldn’t stop!

Keep up the great work capturing life in our area. With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I know I’ll find some great stuff from everyone for next week.

And watch this space next Monday: we’re going to have a photo contest, and you’re all invited!

You guys certainly took advantage of this fabulous past weekend! I had a hard time deciding on the multitude of photos people took across our area; many were monument-centered, as the sky and lighting was near-perfect for photography.

After the jump, a cross-cut of what area folks enjoyed during this glorious weather weekend. Sadly, it’s not sticking around, as we’ve got colder temps coming. Hey, at least it’s not snowing

I’ve had a few readers comment to me on the fly last week that they loved the “Flashback” I posted this past Monday. So I think we’ll make this a regular thing, mmkay?

You guys certainly lived it up this past weekend; beautiful weather on Saturday made it hard to choose what photos to pick. And I’m continually amazed at what you guys love to do on a fall weekend – maybe we should have the end of DST more often, yes?

It’s so dreary outside here in Tysons and I’m in desperate need of a pick-up. So I was perusing through Flickr during lunch today and noticed quite a few shots that I think encapsulated what a great weekend we had in the area. For some reason, the great photos I saw helped give me a much-needed boost out of the “Monday blahs” so I decided to share.

Indulge me as I show some of the photos that told me about your weekend here in the DC metro area.
