Happy Monday, DC. This weekend was mostly grey, and a little soggy. Had I not had guests in town, I would have been happy to snuggle up with our cat and watch a Sex and the City marathon. It was just one of those. But happy for us, you all resisted the lethargy and still got out there with your cameras, bless your hearts! From the wedding that closed down the streets, early Cinco de Mayo celebrations, to the Embassy open houses, our flickrattzi captured the weekend in a fantastic fashion. Continue reading

Hey! Where did Spring go??? It feels like Winter not only overstayed its welcome, it booted out Spring and let Summer in the back door.
Nonetheless, I was amazed at the sheer volume of photos our intrepid readers dumped into our Flickr pool over the weekend. Astounding! And you guys were BUSY! I guess the summer-like heat didn’t keep many indoors; I think we all needed to get outside, regardless of the surprise heatwave.
The great peeps over at Capital Weather tell us that Spring is sneaking back in and clobbering Summer starting on Wednesday, under the cover of rain. Well, I guess we’ll take what we can get, right?
Meantimes, enjoy the awesome spread of weekend happenings, captured by our awesome photo-readers. Enjoy!

Spring? Here? About time.
Lots of activity in the District this weekend. We’ll let the generous photographers of our area share with you – all direct from our Flickr pool.

Welcome back to the work week; hope you didn’t stuff yourselves too full of chocolaty, sugary goodness over the holiday (or non-holiday, if you’re inclined).
The Cherry Blossom Festival is now in the past, having closed out with a ‘bang’ (that’d be the usual festival-ending fireworks); maybe now we’ll get a little peace before our ‘second wave’ of tourists hit in mid-May. Time to get out and about to enjoy our mid-Atlantic springtime – provided we can get out of these chilly mornings!
A quick look at the weekend as captured by you. Continue reading

Did you get out to see the blossoms, like seemingly everyone else around here and along the East Coast? A gorgeous weekend – even with high wind bursts on Saturday – couldn’t damper the Cherry Blossom Festival and many blooms remained attached to their branches. Which meant they were still in place for area and tourist photographers to capture.
If you’re still hankering for more, check out the WeLoveDC flickr pool, as many of our “regular” contributors’ photos can be seen there. Just watch out – you might get so engrossed you may lose track of time like I did…

It’s here, our ‘official’ herald of spring in the DC area – the Cherry Blossom Festival! Despite a narrow window of peak flowers this year, thousands of photos will be snapped by throngs of tourists in and around the DC area. And finally, the weather is beginning to cooperate, with a nice and somewhat warm weekend behind us (despite the rain).
Katie and Jasmine have much of this past weekend’s festival covered with kites and opening ceremonies; Flashback steps back and takes in the great photogenic city we live and work in every day, as captured by you. Enjoy.

In case you had no doubt, spring is finally here in DC. Hope you all were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather and the end of winter’s grasp. From the photos I saw in Flickr, there was a lot of hustle and bustle in the area, sampling everything from concerts to the circus to museums to the opening buds of the cherry blossoms.
Fair warning: we’ll be having a lot of cherry blossom photos over the next few weeks, since it is arguably one of the best times to photograph DC. And it never gets old.
Meantimes, enjoy the sampling of shots from our area photogs from this past weekend! Continue reading

Well hello March, glad to see you. Thanks for dumping cold and rain on us like always! But you couldn’t stop our readers and residents from taking pictures, so take that!
And for those of you just plain tired of this dragging winter, take heart – the blossoms are coming…

Less than a week after “snowpocalypse 2009” we welcomed with wide open arms the first taste of spring. That, and suffering the loss of a precious hour of rest.
While we’re still looking at a chilly week ahead, it’ll be a snap compared to the cold we dealt with last week. Only a little bit longer, DC, before the cherry blossoms appear and spring takes a firm hold on the area.
Meantimes, here’s a smattering of what all of you were up to over this glorious weekend… Continue reading

No, you read that right – the title of this week’s flashback does include today. Because you know, it’s a surprise three-day weekend for some (Not me. Boo!) and there are already some great Snowpocalypse ’09 photos showing up in our Flickr pool. (Which, if you’ve not submitted any, what are you waiting for?)
The cold caught some of us by surprise, but by and large, didn’t kill anyone’s plans. Lots going on in the city, and you guys were out in force! So here’s an extra-large edition of the Flashback, chronicling the varied tastes of all our awesome area residents and regional visitors.

Despite the chill in the air, the sky was (mostly) agreeable and due to the number of events going on this weekend, you guys were busy! DC Exposed to the Oscars to Kennedy Center concerts to bands to sports professional and not, you guys managed to capture quite the slice of life in our area. Bravo! So here’s a super-sized Flashback for your work-diverting pleasure, after the jump. Continue reading
Yesterday, we headed out to the “largest parade celebrating George Washington’s Birthday in the USA!” – Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Parade. How can you beat that as the perfect homage to President’s Day? Here it is in a photo review, from clowns to horseback riders, the parade had it all. Continue reading

And a Happy Belated Valentine’s Day to you all. Hope your weekend was full of everything you wanted it to be.
So what did you all do this past “weekend o’ love”? Well, after the jump, find out what some of your fellow residents and visitors were snapping photos of around the area. And please, if you see something that you like, click over to their Flickr stream and let them know. Our resident photogs are awesome and we should show our appreciation for sharing their work with us. Continue reading

Can’t believe it’s Monday already? Hey, we hear you. After what may well be the beginning of spring (or just a prelude), DC experienced a gorgeous weekend that erased our memories of the chilly weather last week.
Our photos of the weekend ranged from ice skating in Arlington to the DC Car Show to a visit by Jack Bauer to our region – which is a good thing, considering that Jack can’t seem to keep his facts straight about our beloved hometown. You swung by the Botanical Gardens and lingered at night to grab some great evening shots. So let’s enjoy, shall we?

Good morning! For all us Steeler fans, it’s a good morning indeed! Don’t fret though, Cardinal fans – your boy Kurt and his posse put up a great fight; the consensus at the party I was at (where I was one of only two Pittsburgh fans…) was that it was the best Super Bowl we’ve seen in years.
But that’s not all that was happening around the area. A gorgeous Sunday capped off a nice and pleasant weekend after our area brush with “Icepocalpyse 2009.” It was a great backdrop for many, including an area bloggers’ meet-up, a Flickr walk, and a party in Chinatown. To those celebrating the Chinese New Year – happy Year of the Ox to you!
So let’s find out what you saw over this fine, brisk weekend after the jump. Continue reading

The WLDC Flickr pool has been abuzz with pictures of the snow. I listed snow-covered DC as one of the things I am most thankful for, and so it was my pleasure to comb through the great photos our flickratzi have submitted over the past 24 hours, and pulled some to post. So click on through to take a tour of our gorgeous city in the snow. Continue reading

This past weekend started out giving us hope for spring before diving back down again to…winter weather advisories for the week. However, metro area residents were out enjoying a variety of events across the region. From Chinese dancing to zoo animals to monster truck rallies, here’s a snapshot of what you all were up to…
Remember, when you take photos of our area, drop them into our photo group!
In case you were under a rock yesterday, we had us an Inauguration yesterday. Our 44th President was sworn in on the steps of the Capitol while an estimated two million people witnessed it and the following parade.
Our prolific area photographers were out in force yesterday; many of them you’ll recognize from prior visits to the Flashback. I encourage you to check out our Flickr feed, as all but one of the following shots came from it. And for images around the world, check out a special Flickr section that features some great shots taken by photographers outside our Beltway.
Many, many thanks to our regular pool contributors; you guys made my job extremely hard today with all the great photos. Keep it up!

Hello DC. Are you ready for January 20th yet? Most of the photos on Flickr over the last few days were great shots of the rehearsal parade; check out Travlr‘s and NewsHour‘s photo streams for more.
Birth and death, monuments and art, museums and animals – all part of the patina of life here in the nation’s capitol. Continue reading
