Thanks for a great year, everyone. This has been OUR baby’s first Christmas, and by way of celebration, I thought I’d take a look back at some of our most popular posts this year, in case you missed ’em the first time.
By far, the most popular post this year in terms of both pageviews AND comments has been Welcome to Murky. You Don’t Get It Your Way. Who could forget this tempest in a coffeepot? It had everything: An outraged customer, a small-business-owning coffee artist, downtrodden hourly employees caught between the customer and the boss’ policy, not to mention threats of arson and physical violence… This is the kind of drama the Internets are made for, people. Don’t forget to read through the comments for links to other accounts of the incident.
Second to the Murky incident, distantly, was when Don found the Most Obscure Plate of the Month. Oh, how Joss Whedon fans loved this license plate. Not being a fan of Angel, I had never seen the episode featuring the character in question, but appreciating Numfar’s Dance of Joy does not require any backstory. Be sure to click through to see it if you haven’t already.
Don brought us a several of our best-loved posts, actually. There’s Jumbotron Comedy, in which a hockey fan threatens to leave his wife because she prefers the Panthers. He also spotted the inflatable union protest rat in Google Street View.
And our favorite issue, photography rights in public, was sure to get people riled up in the comments. Ben Rome got harrassed by DoT security for taking pictures. Paulo got run off by Santa’s elves. I guess Santa can bring you a camera, but he doesn’t have to let you use it.
Of course, Paulo’s continuous coverage of the massive public safety hazard at the Foggy Bottom Metro Station has gotten a fair bit of attention from you all as well. And people are STILL commenting to let us know how much they hate the new Sirius XM. Baseball fans are also in a twist about the Nats letting Mark Teixeira sign with the Yankees, slipping through their fingers like a fly ball in the outfield- frustrating, but not entirely unexpected with this team.
Thanks again for all the fun in 2008, everyone. We hope 2009 brings even more reasons to love DC.
