You like eating to begin with. That much we know already. But it doesn’t hurt when you can eat good food and support a good cause at the same time.

After the jump, here are three upcoming charity events that incorporate some good food and good causes.
“Spring Hope” with Michel Richard, Benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Not only does this fundraiser benefit a great organization that helps provide treatment for children with cancer, regardless of their family’s ability to pay, but it features a fashion show and food from renowned chef Michel Richard. Plus there are chances to win various prizes. “Spring Hope” is this Thursday, April 21st from 2:30 to 4 PM over at Michel in Tysons Galleria. How much a ticket costs is mysteriously left off of the event’s website, but you can see if there are spots left by contacting Brenna O’Malley at brenna.omalley@stjude.org or at 703-351-5171.

The Main Dish for Kidsave
Kidsave International is a nonprofit, child advocacy organization that aims to give children a stable family rather than being moved around through the foster care system. Chefs from the DC area will compete and serve tastings of their best main dish entrees. Participating restaurants include Domaso Trattoria Moderna, The Front Page and Serendipity 3. The Main Dish fundraiser is on Tuesday, May 3rd from 7 to 10 PM at the Washington Post Conference Center. Tickets are $95 per person or $180 per couple and are available online.

Sound Bites 2011
I have to say from personal experience that DC Central Kitchen knows how to throw a good party for a great cause. The organization helps feed around 4,500 people in need per day in the District. Sound Bites 2011 at the 9:30 Club will feature food from 20 restaurants and five food trucks, as well as music from five different bands. This year’s musical lineup includes Trouble Funk, The Pietasters, Ra Ra Rasputin, Will Rast Trio and DJ lil’e. The food line up includes tasty morsels from Cork, Evening Star Cafe, Jaleo, Toki Underground, Sabor’a Street and DC Empanadas. Tickets are $40 each and are available online. Sound Bites 2011 is on Sunday, May 22nd from 5 to 10 PM.

Marissa was born and bred in New Jersey, but moved to DC for undergrad at GWU (Go Colonials, go!), fell in love with the District and learned that there was life and civilization beyond New York City. She loves eating at white-tablecloth-three-forks-at-your-place-setting restaurants, but she’ll also be the first to suggest we scarf down some chili dogs at 2 am. Simply put, she loves all things food. You can also read about why she loves DC. Follow her on Twitter and email her at mbialecki (at) welovedc.com.

  1. You neglected to mention Miriam’s Kitchen Annual 100 Bowls of Compassion event on Thursday, May 12th from 6-9:30pm.

  2. Miranda, thank you for bringing the event to my attention.

Miriam’s Kitchen’s 10th Annual 100 Bowls of Compassion is at the National Building Museum this year. The theme is “The Silk Road,” featuring several Asian and Middle Eastern inspired dishes. Tickets are $250 or $150 for select groups and all proceeds go towards funding the kitchen’s programs.
