Crime blotter fun

Did you realize that Virginians are subject to laws regarding missile use? No chemically-propelled rocket was in play here, fortunately for Ms Sturge but unfortunate for those of us reporting interesting incidents. It seems that the Virgina code simply calls thing flung at folks “missiles.”

MISSILE INTO AN OCCUPIED DWELLING-ARREST 08/11/10, 5100 block of S. 8th Road. On August 11 at 10 pm, a woman threw a ring of keys through the living room window in an attempt to hit the male inside. Makeba Sturge, 23, of Arlington, was charged with Throwing a Missile Into an Occupied Dwelling, and given a $500 bond.

I guess “throwing stuff at people through windows” lacked legal panache.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.

  1. Well a missile by definition is “An object or weapon that is fired, thrown, dropped, or otherwise projected at a target” so its accurate. We just always associate it with the military/weaponry use (internal combustion used for self-propulsion).

  2. It’s not just the Virignia code, Don. This use of the word “missle” is also consistent with every dictonary definition I’ve ever seen. Congrats! You learned a new word today.
