Ah the glory of Youtube. I knew it wouldn’t take long before we saw some video of the gameplay set in the District. If I was smarter it would have occurred to me to look for this yesterday – some people always manage to get their hands on things before release date.
I’ll put everything below the jump here in case you intend to play the game and want to be surprised.
Youtube user xxxCarbon7xxx posted a pair of videos of a mission in the city with the comment “there is more than just this mission that takes place in dc.” He (or she) has put this up in two parts with the first part here including that emergency broadcast warning pictured above and the second part here.
The first part’s text calls this “day five” near the beginning so it looks like you’ll need to play a while before you get to the District; I never played MW but in COD4 each day tended to be multiple missions. It seems like things are going poorly since you’re working to buy an evacuation location next to the Washington Monument a little more time.
The placement of things is not awful, though they seems to have simply compressed the Mall area in general. They’ve moved the National Gallery of Art two buildings to the West and made it five levels it seems. The facade of the building they run you into has the 8 column southern entrance of the NGA but it’s where the Science and Technology museum should be, given the view from the South-West corner where you end the first video.
The second video’s flyover of the WW2 memorial is pretty impressive in its accuracy, though they’ve added some odd tent or solar panels on the East side of it. They really rejigger things, though, when they explicitly identify the building directly North as the Department of Justice. You’re way off there, guys.
All that said, this looks like Google Maps compared to 24…..
I look forward to getting fragged in Ben’s Chili Bowl.
