DCist reported yesterday that Nathan’s, the Georgetown culinary/drinking staple and Q&A Cafe locale, will be shuttering for good this Sunday, July 12.
The question then becomes what will replace Nathan’s?
Given the controversy, kerfuffle and lengthy approval of the Georgetown Apple Store, I’m hoping the new comer will not be a chain establishment; the Georgetown strip has already become DC’s Mall of America.
While the corner location offers great foot traffic, Nathan’s doesn’t offer a lot of retail space. And the front door opening onto one of the busiest corners in DC is a little jarring after a nice meal or happy hour.
Personally, I’d like Nathan’s to stay mostly as it is, but with a few minor tweaks.
- A little decor revamp (ax the lacrosse helmets) A image can go a long way
- Pare down the food offerings to what you’re really, really good at
- Keep the wine and beer list simple. No need for40 red wine options
- Make your prices and specials competitive. You’re in Gtown. Money matters
Are there any shops, restaurants, etc. you’d like to take over Nathan’s?
