Sure Jordan Crawford and John Wall don’t look very excited in this photo, I’m sure they would rather be in the middle of an exciting NBA Playoffs that’s in full swing right now. However I am personally excited for what they are wearing- the new uniforms of the Washington Wizards.
At an unveiling this morning Wizard’s owner Ted Leonsis, Team President Ernie Grunfeld, and Head Coach Flip Saunders were among those on-hand to show-off the new look which both match the existing motif of other DC teams and take us back to the Red, White, and Blue stylings of the franchise’s past when they were better known as the Washington Bullets.
On his blog Ted wrote,
“The changing of the colors is significant in that it now makes red, white and blue the major theme for all three of our sports teams – the Capitals, Wizards and Mystics. I think being located in our Nation’s Capital, that this was an easy and obvious decision…And it also will help us harken back to the best parts of our past traditions and winning ways.”
I agree- DC never really bought into the golds and the teals of the previous uniforms. We also wondered why DC’s basketball mascot is a Wizard and have also expressed interest in reverting the name back, but that won’t be happening anytime soon. This uniform change adds a better look to a team that is trying to rebuild with exciting young talent.
So far reactions have been very positive to the new look. Everybody from Dan Steinberg to my friends on Twitter are fans.
The Wizards’ website has also embraced the change with a new look featuring the new team logo and colors. Those uber excited for the new uniforms and stop by there and buy a jersey or they can visit the Wizards’ team store at the Verizon Center.
I for one approve of this change and Leonsis’ stock can only climb even higher with this move. What do you think?
Red is not their color I think. The previous uniforms looked better.
That picture has some similarity to the 2011 Miama Heat line up.. no? hehe
