The retail space in the City Vista building at 5th St. and K St. NW has been drawing some D.C. favorites since opening in 2007, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing down any time soon. With news this week that the Michael Landrum-owned space opening in the building would be an “urban bakeshop/cafe,” we are now up to three soon-to-be-opened restaurants in one little building.
Landrum, he of Ray’s-the-Everything fame, told Todd Kliman at the Washingtonian that they have already started construction on Ryse (pronounced “rise”) in the former T-Mobile space. They plan to primarily be a coffeehouse, but will serve salads and sandwiches and possibly frozen yogurt. It also sounds like the City Vista Ryse will be just the first location of Landrum’s future coffee joints around the city.
Also opening soon is a second location of Mandu, the Korean restaurant currently on 18th St. in Dupont Circle. A favorite of mine (a good bibim bap is hard to find), the second location is about to start construction in the vacant space next to Japanese restaurant Kushi. And per some renderings on The Triangle Blog, it will be a bit swankier than the Dupont location. According to the ABRA notice, the restaurant will have seating for 96 as well as sidewalk seating, and will be open until 2am Sunday-Thursday and 3am Fridays and Saturdays.
And while it may not be fine dining (though that is debatable), Chipotle is also coming to City Vista. As reported in the latest Mount Vernon Triangle newsletter, the long-rumored newest location will be in the former sales center located on the 5th St. side of the complex.
That’s a lot of new restaurants, but the good news is that City Vista Fitness is opening soon in the former Results space. We’ll call it a wash.
