It’s raining! It’s gross! It’s humid! What, don’t you remember what I said about comedy being performed in basements? It’s an all-weather sport, you guys.
This Friday the 21st, as I mentioned last time, is the Don’t Block the Box Comedy Show at the Wonderland Ballroom. Only 2 bucks to see featuring Aparna Nancherla, Keith Irvin, Graham Hall, Ahmed Huidobro, and Lafayette Wright, with Pete Bladel hosting.
Saturday the 22nd, 8PM at Chief Ike’s Mambo Room is the “Fan-Freaking-Fastic” comedy party hosted by Vijai Nathan. She plans to make it a regular thing come the fall, and the theme of this particular event is “Vampires, Wizards, & Sexy Beasts: Heroes or Villains?” It’s a comedy event, but will include “stand-ups, storytellers, and slam poets” working their craft on this month’s theme. The cover is $10 (cash only) and seating at Chief Ike’s is limited. And uncomfortable. But whatever. It sounds like a fun event.
Next week, on Thursday the 27th at 9pm, BrightestYoungThings its putting on another Family Hemerlein Variety Show, this time at the Gibson Guitar Showroom on G Street across from the Chinatown metro. Comedians featured will be Brooke Van Poppelen, who recently appeared on American Chopper, no kidding; and Will Hessler, local favorite and host of the Arlington Drafthouse’s Friday comedy night. Music will be provided by Chrisstylez Bacon and of course Matt Hemerlein.
Coming up a little farther out is the June 4th edition of 3 Chord Comedy at the Velvet Lounge. Brent Sullivan (Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham) will be headlining, and Eli Sairs, Brian Parise and Mike Blejer will also appear.
