Tea Bag Metro?

Tax hating, tea-party protesters are angry at Metro. You’d think it would be for being a publicly funded transit system that wastes tax-payer dollars as it ferries the excessively large federal workforce in and out of the city.  It turns out, however, that the tea baggers are upset because WMATA’s service wasn’t up to snuff during their Saturday protest. Texas Representative Kevin Brady is calling for an investigation into whether or not Metro adequately prepared for the number of protesters that were in the city on 9/12. The irony, of course, is that these people were in DC to protest government spending on services, in general.

See the WSJ article on the subject, here.

Since graduating, he’s nabbed a job with the Fed and spends most of his free time hunting for cheap thrills in the city. Find out why he loves DC.

  1. How about we actually investigate Metro for something useful?

    – Overtime abuses
    – Whether they knew about WEE-Z Bond problems
    – The 1000-series Car safety issues

Those would all be a fuckpile more useful…

  2. Well I’ll be damned, there is actually one thing I can agree with these teabaggers about! Maybe the crappiness of metro will be the issue that will heal our nation and bring us all together…

Yeah right, that might work for a few minutes, until one of them pulls out their ever classy “Bury Obamacare with Kennedy” or “Biden ’09” signs

  3. You don’t like Metro’s service, get in your car and DRIVE into D.C.

We’ve got a useless union representing all of the operations and maintanence personnel… Which means the laziest, most ignorant people get to keep jobs. (No wonder they keep getting hit by trains.)

We’ve got no dedicated funding by our biggest users, Residents and employees in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia… (D.C. SPENT 50million elsewhere that was earmarked for Metro)

And who cares about the safety of the 1000 series trains; Don’t hit anything and they’re plenty safe… I’m a little more worried about cracked rails, tunnels that’re falling apart, and train control and tracking machinery that’s over 30 years old.

Ditch the union, keep the good workers and hire more of them at a fair salary and benefits.

    Get dedicated funding.

And quit pointing fingers at trivial crap and fix the MAJOR problems.

    Thanks

  4. You want a better publicly funded Metro..go to Singapore and protest..they have the best system in the world. Of course, the teabaggers will be arrested and caned too!

  5. I wouldn’t say it’s the best. When I need to make it from Northern VA to MD, I usually take my own advice and drive.

New York… Now THAT’S a mass transit system.

  6. “New York… Now THAT’S a mass transit system.”

Try San Francisco or Denver..much better transport systems…and mostly on time! Singapore is still the best mass rapid system in the world and try protesting government spending there..the teapartiers will be caned!
