Turns out that the event was not really supported by a sponsorship effort in the traditional sense — Screen on the Green wasn’t set up as a collaborative effort between the local government with HBO footing the bill or providing the hardware. According to Pepco Social Media rep Andre Francis, Pepco looked into sponsoring the screening after WLDC’s KatieT put forth the suggestion. HBO purportedly backed out of the event due to financial strains.
This morning’s Art Beat on WAMU offered up The Rosslyn Film Festival and the Strathmore Music Center as just two alternatives for outdoor film watching.
