Got this heads-up from Commander David Kamperin on the MPD-1D Mailing List about officers shooting a pitbull in SE after they saw it attacking a six-year old girl:
Tonight at about 8:30 1D members were in the 200 block of 11th St SE when they observed a pitbull over a child apparently mauling her. They exited their vehicle and the dog rushed them. They fired at the dog striking and killing him and ending the threat. The child received bites to her arms, neck and head and was transported to the hospital. No other injuries reported. MPD will be conducting a follow-up investigation on the use of service weapon and the dog running at large.
