Coffee for a Cure

If I didn’t resist the urge, I’d hector you bunch about charity events on a daily basis. So I almost passed on promoting this event, which organizer Stefan Gunther suggested to us. He’s attempting to raise $5,000 by year’s end to fund a run in the Boston Marathon this April. While he’s a local, the marathon is in Boston and he’s targeted the money for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. I’m sure they’re a worthy charity but we’ve got some serious AIDS problems here at home.

However I decided that lauding Mayorga Coffee Factory’s support of Gunther was worth a mention, even if I wish he’d drop some of that money closer to home. In addition to kindly providing Stefan with a location for his charity art auction this Friday at 7:30pm, they’re also allowing him to sell $20 cash cards for $20…. $10 of which they’ll donate to the cause.

So if you spend any amount of time near one of these shops you can feed your caffeine habit for no additional cost while putting $10 towards helping AIDS sufferers. Just contact Stefan at the provided email address to arrange a purchase. I figure it’s a three-fer: support a good cause, caffeinate yourself, and support a good corporate citizen. It’s nice to see a local business doing so much both with their space and their profits.

Well I used to say something in my profile about not quite being a “tinker, tailor, soldier, or spy” but Tom stole that for our about us page, so I guess I’ll have to find another way to express that I am a man of many interests.

Hmm, guess I just did.

My tastes run the gamut from sophomoric to Shakespeare and in my “professional” life I’ve sold things, served beer, written software, and carried heavy objects… sometimes at the same place. It’s that range of loves and activities that makes it so easy for me to love DC – we’ve got it all.
